Description

Small ants are tan (working monochromatic yellow). The length is 3-5 mm. The width of the head of a soldier or large worker (HW) 2.09 - 2.13 mm (head length 2.06 - 2.11 mm). The width of the head of small workers 0.62 - 0.68 mm (head length 0.75 - 0.83 mm). On the upper chest there are three pairs of spines of various shapes and sizes. Pronotum has two long spines directed forward and sideways. There are two short spikes in the middle part. On the posterior thorax there are two long propodeal spines branched at the apex (one branch is directed backward and the other forward). Antennal grooves absent. The scape of small workers is long and exceeds the occipital margin of the head (in soldiers it is very short and does not reach the back of the head). The scape of the antennae of small workers is relatively long (SI = 162-169). The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: an elongated petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen) [1] . The species was first described in 2016 by mymecologists E. Sarnat, Eli M. Fischer , E. Ikonomo ( Ovanawa Institute of Science & Technology Graduate University, Japan ) [1] [ 2] [3] .

Etymology

The specific name is Ph. viserion is given in honor of Viserion - the yellow dragon of Queen Daenerys Targaryen from the popular series Game of Thrones . The reason for this choice was the unusual shape of the breast spines, reminiscent of mythical monsters [1] [2] [3] .
