Pedro Cateriano ( Spanish: Pedro Álvaro Cateriano Bellido ; born June 26, 1958 , Lima , Peru ) - Peruvian lawyer and politician, Prime Minister of Peru from April 2, 2015 to July 28, 2016 ; previously served as Minister of Defense from July 2012 to April 2015.

Biography

Kateriano received a law degree, specializing in constitutional law. From 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the Peruvian Parliament. He served as Deputy Minister of Justice from 2001 to 2002. He was named observer for the Organization of American States (OAS) in the Guatemala elections in 2007 and as the representative of Peru on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). He taught law at the University of Lima.

He was appointed Minister of Defense on July 24, 2012 to the cabinet of ministers led by Juan Jiménez.

In April 2015, President Ollanta Humala appointed Cateriano to the post of prime minister after his predecessor, Ana Hara Velazquez, was dismissed on charges of organizing surveillance of parliamentarians and journalists.

Upon assuming the post of the new president of Peru in July 2016, he resigned in accordance with the Constitution of the country.
