Women's NBA Block Shot Regular Leaderboard

Margo Dydek became the leader of the regular VNBA block shots championship 8 times.

The Women's National Basketball Association (VNBA) is awarded the title of leader of the regular championship in block shots to the player who made the largest number of block shots on average per game during this season.

In basketball, “ block shot ” means a situation when a player of a defending team blocks an opponent’s throw without breaking the rules and characterizes the actions of the basketball player in defense. The main blocking players are the front-line players - center and heavy forwards , however players of other positions who have a good jump and coordination often become the best in this statistic.

The record for perfect block shots in a single regular season belongs to Brittney Greiner , who blocked 129 rival shots in the 2014 season . In the 2015 season, Greiner also set a record for the average number of block shots per meeting - 4.04. In the 1998 season, Margot Dydek set records for the total number of block shots made and the average set for a match for newcomers to the league (114 and 3.80, respectively).

More often than others, the winner of this nomination was Margot Dydek (8 times), Brittney Griner became seven times the best blocker of the league, in addition, both are players who won this nomination 6 and 7 times in a row, respectively, and starting from the debut season in the league. Twice the best block shot players were Lisa Leslie , Candice Parker and Sylvia Fowles . Only one basketball player won this nomination and the VNBA championship in the same season, she also became Brittney Greiner in 2014 as part of the Phoenix Mercury club. The same Greiner is the youngest basketball player to win this award, having won it at the age of 22 years and 332 days. The current winners of this nomination are Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones and Phoenix Mercury Center Brittney Greiner.

Comments

  • a In the 2005 season, Margot Dydek , Lisa Leslie , Vanessa Hayden and Lauren Jackson made the most block shots (71, 71, 68 and 67, respectively), however, they held 16, 19, 16 and 19 meetings respectively more than Maria Stepanova therefore, according to the average indicator for the match, they took the second, fourth, third and fifth places, slightly behind the last one (2.29, 2.09, 2.19 and 1.97 against 2.53), and Stepanova herself only closed the top ten in terms of the total number of blocked shots [13] .
  • b In the 2009 season, Tanzhela Smith made the most block shots (57), but had 9 meetings more than Candice Parker , so she took only third place in the average for the match, slightly behind the last one (1.68 against 2 , 12), and the second was Lauren Jackson (1.73) [18] .
  • c September 15, 2013 after the end of the next season center Brittney Greiner at the age of 22 years and 332 days became the youngest best blocking player according to the results of the season in the history of the VNBA .
  • d In the 2017 season, Sylvia Fawles and Elizabeth Williams made the most block shots (67 each), however, they held 8 meetings more than Brittney Greiner, so by the average for the game they divided the second and third places, slightly behind the last one ( 1.97 versus 2.50) [28] .
