Biography
He studied at the 4th St. Petersburg (Larinskaya) gymnasium.
He made his debut in the " Picturesque Review of the Countries of the World " edited by A. K. Sceller-Mikhailov .
In the newspaper "Russia" (editor A.V. Amfiteatrov ) he headed the theater department; then became a permanent employee of the " New Time ". He wrote articles about the theater , about art exhibitions , small feuilletons , parodies and cartoons under the pseudonyms "Viscount d'Apolinaris" and "Vaudeville".
Critical articles by Belyaev are collected in the books Actors and Pieces (St. Petersburg, 1902) and Melpomene (ib., 1905).
Published two essays: “V. F. Komissarzhevskaya "and" L. B. Yavorskaya. " The author of the science fiction story "Red Zucchini".
In 1905 he took a trip along the Volga and the Volga region, the result of which was the feuilleton, collected later in the book "In a certain kingdom."
From 1908 he began to write for the theater. His plays: “Confusion, or 1840”, “Red Zucchini”, “Old Peterhof” and especially “Psisha” (1911-1912), “The Frog Princess” were a great success, thanks to stage mastery; "Lady of Torzhok." His fiction experiments are less known: "Young ladies Schneider"; "Sisters Schneider"; "Town in a snuffbox", etc.
His plays gravitated to the ancient vaudeville tradition and were built mainly on historical and everyday material.
