History
The company, called Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation , began manufacturing aircraft in Roosevelt , New York, in 1925. In 1929, the company moved to Stratford (Connecticut) . The company then became part of the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation (now United Technologies Corporation ) in July of that year. Initially, Igor Sikorsky was focused on the development of multi-engine aircraft, and then amphibious aircraft . In the late 1930s, aircraft sales fell and United Aircraft merged with Vought Aircraft. Sikorsky took this opportunity to begin work on the development of the helicopter. After the first VS-300, he developed the Sikorsky R-4 , which was the first single-rotor fully-controlled helicopter.
