Evgeny Markevich owes his birth to the dolphins that carried his mother ashore during a storm on the Black Sea. Due to the advance of the Germans, he was born in a hungry evacuation in the Urals . The childhood years after the war passed in Krasnodar and Yevpatoriya , where their grandmother, Efrosinya Karpovna Alifanova (Asya), associate of Major General Dr. M.S. Vovsi, the heroine of the Red Cross , the sister of mercy and the captain of medical, devoted much time to raising Zhenya and younger brother Vova service that saved thousands of lives on the fronts of the four wars. Her humanism and philosophy of life had a decisive influence on the boys and their fate (Victory Banner 1947, Evpatoria Health Resort 2000). Eugene's public career began after being expelled from school for the explosion of improvised bombs. In order to direct his energy into a peaceful direction, the teachers of school No. 3 of Yevpatoriya, instead of being expelled from the Komsomol and sent to the colony, organized his election as secretary of the largest Komsomol organization in the city [1] . In 1961, he entered the Physics Department of Moscow State University . He participated in research on spirulina at the Department of Biophysics at L. A. Blumenfeld . Later he moved to the Department of Physics of the Sea. He did the diploma in the 40th voyage of the legendary scientific vessel Vityaz. During the expedition, students participated in an experiment on the survival of astronauts in extreme conditions, drifting for five days on a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean [2] . Important results were obtained, participants were awarded medals with images of Pavlov’s Dog and the inscription “For service to science!”. According to Yevgeny Markevich:
“Those nights and days (especially when they were lost, and everything became serious) turned out to be the most important event of life. At night, in the boat swinging on the Ocean’s chest, he felt that“ The ocean is alive! <...> And again the main Truth was revealed, that I - part of all this, the Absolute and Perfect Self! ”
In the same 1967, Eugene received his first yoga lessons in India and Ceylon . In January 2017, it celebrates 50 years of its “official” dedication to this science and the art of living.
EXPO-70 and Kyokyu-Maru
Even at Moscow State University, under the influence of S. E. Shnol , Eugene, having found an old dictionary and textbook by S. F. Zarubin, began to study Japanese. After the University, he was sent to work at the State Oceanographic Institute . The world was preparing for EXPO-70 in Osaka . At the Institute of Oriental Languages of Moscow State University (now the Institute of Asian and African countries), an evening faculty was created to prepare stand specialists for this exhibition. Eugene was lucky: six months before EXPO-70, Leon Abramovich Strizhak, Kosygin translator and head, individually studied with him. Department of Japanese. As Yevgeny Markevich recalls, “with incredible, as always, adventures,” he was nevertheless sent to Japan with the stand “Development of the Arctic and Antarctic ”. The pavilion of the USSR was visited by the emperor Hirohito , who personally awarded Eugene the medal "for excellent work" at EXPO-70 . At the exhibition, Eugene met with cosmonaut Alexei Leonov and made his debut as a yoga teacher, while continuing to study with everyone who met in his life. In the years 1973-74. E. Markevich worked in Antarctica as an international observer of the IWC ( International Whaling Commission ) at the Japanese Kyokyu-Maru flotilla. There he first tried unsuccessfully to save the whales, which later helped him become the champion of Greenpeace and create the ORCA. At a whaling depot with 500 Japanese, his yoga classes with captain-director Rikunosuke and others were more successful. Later, he continued to teach yoga in Moscow .
Academy of Sciences
At the IMEMO of the USSR Academy of Sciences, N. N. Inozemtsev , A. N. Yakovlev and E. M. Primakov, in the Department of International Problems of the World Ocean, Markevich defended his dissertation on the development of the ocean in Japan (academician academician Mileikovsky) and prepared materials for the Soviet delegation at the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea and the Law on the 200-Mile Economic Zone of the USSR . He published dozens of scientific articles, was a participant and editor of several academic books on the problems of the World Ocean. At the invitation of Academician B. E. Paton, he reported to the Presidium of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences on the possibilities of aquaculture. After outrageous initiatives for those years on a peace treaty with Japan and a new approach to relations with her in the salmon fishery, he was called to Old Square ( CPSU Central Committee ), where the orientalist A.I. , who oversaw Soviet-Japanese relations, Senators , having approved these initiatives, he proposed the idea of creating a structure under the Academy’s wing, where they could be developed without regard to outdated departmental positions.
Soviet-Japanese Friendship Club and Museum
In 1980, Yevgeny Markevich for the first time in the country began to teach Japanese to children on a large scale and share this experience at international symposia and conferences (Orientalists of Russia, Moscow: Eastern Literature, 2008). Then he created the Sakura youth club in the Sevastopol district of Moscow . Pupils, students, workers, young specialists, employees of institutions and enterprises of the capital participated in it. They studied Japanese, acquired knowledge on the history, culture, economics and social life of Japan . But the most important and common thing for everyone was the creation of the “Museum of Soviet-Japanese Friendship named after Professor Konstantin Mikhailovich Popov,” the beloved teacher of Soviet Oriental Studies Yevgeny Markevich. In the collections and expositions of the museum there were hundreds of exhibits, including unique ones. Later, in the next building, the “ASYA” cooperative for the study of languages and health systems of India , Japan and China was located .
ASYA
The Association for Cooperation with Japan was created by Eugene Markevich in July 1988. Its members are more than 100 state, public and cooperative organizations from all over the country. In 1990, with the support of V. L. Malkevich , V. I. Ilyichyov , the Association received recognition from the Council of Ministers of the USSR . The members of the Association had a wide range of interests for cooperation with Japan , and the “ASN” successfully helped them with commercial information, contacts, consultations, etc. Most of all, the members of the association appreciated its effective assistance in entering the foreign market, selecting partners in Japan , organizing exhibitions and exchange of delegations. And most importantly - in protecting the interests of their enterprises.
Cooperation and first free elections
In 1989, Yevgeny Markevich was elected chairman of the Union of Co-Operators of the Sevastopol District and, with the help of the "ASYA", held the constituent congress of the Moscow Union of Cooperatives (MSC), becoming a member of its Board and Director. In 1990, as a non-partisan candidate, he participated in the elections to the Moscow City and Sevastopol District Councils of People's Deputies. The country had the opportunity to compete on equal terms with competitors from the powerful circles, such as the CPSU . Evgeny Markevich won in 4 rounds. In the second round of elections, Yevgeny Markevich was supported by the movement " Democratic Russia " in the person of Gavriil Popov , Nikolai Travkin , Sergei Stankevich and Boris Yeltsin . In the Moscow Soviet he was elected Chairman of the subcommittee on foreign economic activity. He talked with Yuri Luzhkov and Sergey Stankevich on the affairs of the MSC, the Moscow City Council and the “ASYA”. He met with Mikhail Gorbachev , Boris Yeltsin , Vladimir Lukin , deputies of the current State Duma, Nikolai Travkin , Nikolai Gonchar , and other public figures of that time. In the autumn, during the presentation of “ASYA” at the Osaka business symposium, Markevich’s friendship with the famous Japanese entrepreneur Eikichi Nishikawa began , which laid the foundation for large-scale cooperation between Osaka and Moscow . In the same fall, together with Yuri Solomatin, they led the Moscow delegation to Afghanistan , where, using the experience of "ASYA", they resolved the crisis in negotiations, for which President Mohammad Najibullah personally awarded delegates with medals "From the grateful Afghan People."
ASY Charity International and Katyusha Batistin-Sevir-Markevich
The International Charity Fund “ASY Charity International” was born, was presented and approved in 1990 in two sections of the Moscow Council: the Commission for Charity and Freedom of Conscience ( Valery Borshchev ) and the Commission for Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship. But it was possible to register the Fund earlier in Texas , when, after an international meeting in the Kremlin , the mayor of Houston, Katie Widmeier, invited Gabriel Popov , Sergey Stankevich and Markevich to discuss prospects for business cooperation. Evgeny Markevich recalls:
“The foundation turned out to be a“ spoon for dinner ”in winter, when Gorbachev announced with tears in his voice that hunger was approaching Moscow, and for 3 years the“ ASYA ”sent parcels of food and clothing to Moscow and Leningrad .”
Enormous help in this was provided by Katerin Batistin-Sevir, who had already become Katyusha Batistin-Sevir-Markevich. From an interview with Eugene Markevich in the Texas major Houston Chronicle :
“I could not tear my eyes from her from the first meeting. And a few days later at a concert of classical music in downtown, imperceptibly “spying” on her, I realized that the Creature is undoubtedly Divine next to me! ”
With the help of P.N. Titov , a classmate of Indra Davy’s student Yul Brynner , Eugene created the Russian-American club “ASYA” and began publishing the first bilingual newspaper “Russian America” in Houston , which for 6 years introduced Americans to the public life and culture of Russia , upholding historical truth and justice. He was fortunate enough to interview Dmitry Pokrovsky and sing along with his ensemble at concerts in Houston . In 1996, at the presentation “Oil and Gas Potential of Uzbekistan”, Markevich provided an important service to President Islam Karimov , received an invitation to Uzbekistan and the honorary title of “Trouble Shooter”.
Greenpeace and ORCA
In 1999, Eugene and Katyusha moved to Southern California , where he became the fundraising champion for Greenpeace . Club "ASYA" helped former compatriots in the vicinity of San Diego to meet each other and make friends for many years. Disappointed at Greenpeace , Markevich, with the help of the “ ASN ,” created the ORCA (Ocean Research and Conservation Alliance) alliance to protect whales and dolphins in peaceful ways. Today, ASYA ORCA continues this work in Tenerife , involving children and adults in the protection of these animals. Alliance was particularly outraged
"The barbarism taking place in the Faroe Islands in Denmark ." “We are developing a strategy to effectively combat it.”
Indra Davy, South Juventa and Tenerife Russia Health Relay
Even at Moscow State University, Eugene began to seriously study yoga, then continuing his studies in India , Ceylon , Japan and America . In 1967, in Bombay, he first met in person with his Guru Indra Devi , becoming her student. At the turn of the millennium, in Guatemala and Belize , she blessed him to disseminate ASYA YOGA "secret knowledge" in America and Eurasia . Having received recognition in California, he fulfilled the will of the Guru in 15 countries of Europe and Asia , including India , Crimea and Abkhazia , where he paid attention, first of all, to children. Now the headquarters of the "ASYA" is located in Tenerife . Evgeny Markevich:
“Here is a warm ocean, where you can learn breathing all year and take these“ secrets ”to your homeland, participating in the Tenerife Russia Health relay! And next to them there are whales and dolphins that help us remember that each of us is a Divine Soul and that here on Earth we must bring peace, love and good to all living beings! ”
