Biography
He visited the universities of Gottingen and Heidelberg , studied at Leyden collections under the supervision of Temmink .
In 1827 he published the essay “Sketch of the history of development and the natural system of the European animal world” ( German: “Skizze zur Entwickelungsgeschichte und natürliches System der europäischen Thierwelt” ), in which he described the history of the animal world as a development from lower to higher forms (from amphibians to birds and further to the predators).
Later, however, Kaup considered this work to be a youthful mistake and strongly opposed Darwinism . Of greatest importance are Kaup's works on paleontology .
