Family
Lemko by origin. Born into a peasant family. 1945 the family was forcibly evicted from the NDP to the USSR - first to the Kharkiv region , subsequently moved to the Ternopil region - p. Flying (now Lityachi ) of Zaleshchytsky district .
Education
In 1963 he graduated from the Chertkovsky Music and Pedagogical College.
In 1968-1969 he studied at the Faculty of Music and Education of Kamyanets-Podilsky Pedagogical Institute . In 1969 he transferred to the correspondence department of the Ivano-Frankivsk Pedagogical Institute .
Career
Since September 1963 he worked as a music teacher in the city of Borshchev, Ternopil region . From 1970 - a teacher of aesthetics at the Borschevsky College of Mechanization, led a youth ensemble.
In 1992 - 1993 headed the editorial board of the information programs of the Ukrtelefilm studio.

Social and political activities
From September 1988 - Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union.
In 1990-1994 - Chairman of the Kiev organization of the Ukrainian Republican Party (URP).
In 1990-1994 - deputy of the Kiev City Council.
March 4, 1994 was elected People's Deputy of Ukraine. He worked in the Committee of Culture and Spirituality, was the chairman of the deputy group of the URP, was a member of the faction "State", "Constitutional Center", "People’s Movement of Ukraine."
Founding member of the Republican Christian Party (RHP), at its Constituent Congress on May 1, 1997, was elected first deputy chairman. On May 30, 1998 - member of the Central Wire of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Member of the International PEN Club since 1986
1999, in order to support non-traditional art and help non-professional artists with disabilities and to popularize their art, created the Bogdan Gallery Charity Fund (in honor of the late brother Bogdan Gorbal).
