Biography

Born on January 24, 1936 in the city of Krivoy Rog .

He graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Institute of Chemical Technology with honors.

In 1961 he entered the graduate school of the L. Ya. Karpov Scientific-Research Physical-Chemical Institute , where he attended the school of academician S. S. Medvedev , and in 1965 he defended his thesis.

While studying at graduate school, he met two prominent representatives of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences - Professor L. A. Blumenfeld and Professor (later Academician) N. S. Enikolopov , who invited him to work at the Institute’s branch in Chernogolovka .

From 1965 to the end of his life, he worked at the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Chernogolovka, where he went from a junior researcher to the head of the department of polymers and composite materials.

In 1972 he defended his doctoral dissertation.

From 1978 to 1994 - professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology , and from 1995 - professor at the Moscow State University branch in Chernogolovka.

He died on October 19, 2008 .

Scientific activity

He completed a long cycle of pioneering work in the field of "living" ionic polymerization of heterocycles.

He put forward and substantiated the concept of a polymolecular transition state in the curing processes of epoxy oligomers by nucleophilic type hardeners.

Received and investigated anisotropic crosslinked polymer. For this, the thermotropic liquid crystalline epoxy monomer was first synthesized and the processes of its curing, the formation of the structure and properties of the formed anisotropic networks in a magnetic field were studied.

Together with employees, he conducted research on the regeneration of rubber from car tires to create rubber products and high-strength and moisture-resistant bitumen compositions with high frost resistance up to - 300 ° based on regenerated rubber.

He developed the theory of phase separation induced by the curing of multicomponent oligomeric systems, discovered a previously unknown diffusion mechanism for the relaxation of the free volume of amorphous polymers, established the laws of solidification of liquid crystalline epoxy monomers in a magnetic field, and obtained fundamental results on the kinetic features and mechanism of anionic polymerization of vinyl monomers with a labile hydrogen atom.

Under his leadership, 19 candidate and 6 doctoral dissertations were defended.

Author and co-author of more than 600 scientific works, including 14 monographs, books and 40 inventions.

Participated in the activities of scientific organizations:

  • member of scientific councils on macromolecular compounds, kinetics and reactivity at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
  • Member of the Academic Council of the IPCP and a number of academic and qualification councils of other RAS institutes;
  • member of the editorial board of the journal "High Molecular Compounds";
  • Member of the IUPAC International Polymer Networks Group;
  • Reviewer of international polymer magazines.

Rewards

  • VDNKh Bronze Medal (1968) - for the development of technology for thermostable polymers based on formaldehyde and trioxane;
  • Prize named after V. A. Kargin (for 2005, together with L. I. Manevich , A. E. Chalykh ) - for a series of works “Heterophase cross-linked polymer matrices: development of theoretical concepts and experimental research methods”;
  • Prize of the I. P. Dubovitsky Institute of Chemical Physics RAS (2005) for work on the anionic polymerization of vinyl monomers with a mobile hydrogen atom;
  • Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2006).
