Biography
Jakob Kats was born on November 10, 1577 in Browvershaven. Having received a specialized education, he became at first a lawyer , then a professor in Leiden , a trustee of the University of Leiden , in 1627 he began to play the role of ambassador to England , from 1636, in very difficult times for Holland, as a great pensioner of the Netherlands, showing at this post not so much talent as complete impartiality and honesty [4] .
His works: “Emblemata en Zinnebeelder” (Middelb., 1618 ); "Zelfstryd" (Middelb., 1620 , 1621 ); Huwelyk is his main work ( 1628 ); “Proteus of Zinne en Minnebeelder” (Rotterdam, 1627 ); Trowring ( Dordrecht , 1634 ); "Tachtigjarig Leven Huishouding of Zorgvliet" (Amsterdam, 1656 - 1657 ). His poetic autobiography, written by him at 82 years of age, was published in 1709 [4] .
Jacob Kats died on September 12, 1660 in the city of The Hague.
