History
"Suprematist composition 1" was written by Kazimir Malevich in 1916. For several decades it was out of sight of art critics and collectors [1] .
According to Dmitry Gorbachev , the painting was bought by collector and art critic Igor Dichenko as allegedly the work of one of Malevich’s pupils from the grandson of sculptor Joseph Tchaikov , who inherited Malevich’s workshop. Dichenko immediately highlighted the picture among others and bought it relatively inexpensively. Within a year after the purchase, he himself attributed it as the work of Malevich, which was agreed by a number of other experts of the Russian avant-garde [1] . The painting was the only work of Malevich in the collection of Dichenko [2] .
On October 12, 2015, the canvas was donated as part of the entire collection of Igor Dichenko to the widow of collector Valery Virsky as a gift to the state of Ukraine . The collection was hosted by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko , who awarded the Order of Princess Virsky with Princess Olga . The entire collection was then transferred to the Mystetskyi arsenal [3] .
“Suprematist composition 1” is one of two works by Malevich, which are in state assemblies in Ukraine. The second, the watercolor “ Suprematism 65 ”, is in the Parkhomovsky Museum of History and Art in the Kharkiv Region [2] .
