Israeli-Maldivian relations are international relations between Israel and the Maldives . From 1978 to 2008, there was no official relationship between the two countries. In 2008, the new president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nashid, announced that he would like to establish diplomatic relations with Israel during a speech at the UN General Assembly. This decision was made in the Maldives with some opposition. [1] On September 25, 2009, the Maldives restored deep. relations with Israel, 15 years after their freezing. [2] The first ambassador of Israel to the Maldives (and the first ambassador of a foreign state in general) was Abraham Dar.

History
As strong proponents of a Palestinian state, the Maldives, however, did not support the early calls for expelling Israel from the UN. In 2005, the Maldives co-sponsored a U.S. resolution to perpetuate the events of the Holocaust. In 2007, they also supported a US-promoted resolution condemning Holocaust denial. In response to the signing of the Oslo Accords , the Maldives eased bans on private-sector ties with Israel.
During the Israeli military operation, The Indestructible Rock in Gaza, during which more than 500 Palestinians died, the Maldives announced July 22 that they would boycott Israeli goods and freeze bilateral agreements in the fields of health, culture, education and tourism until Israel will stop the operation in the sector.
