Biography
Oleg Chanba was born on March 27, 1962 in the village of Hypsta, Gudauta District, Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . He graduated from high school, then Armavir Military Aviation School. He served in various aviation units in the Far East and in Moldova [1] .
Participated in hostilities during the Georgian-Abkhaz war, first commanded the air defense of the Gumistinsky line, and then the Air Force of the Republic of Abkhazia. To combat the Georgian forces, Chanba used hang gliders, a new type of gas bomb. He personally carried out combat sorties to bombard the concentration of enemy troops. On January 6, 1993, during the next departure, Chanba's plane was shot down over the Black Sea, his body was never found. A cenotaph was installed in the Odintsovo cemetery of the city of Smolensk [1] .
Posthumously, Chanba was awarded the title Hero of Abkhazia [1] .
