Content

Geography

It was located between the villages of Pavlishchevo and Shevnevo in the Iznoskovsky district , about 2 kilometers from the village of Shansky Zavod , on the left bank of the Shan River.

Etymology

The name of the locality was derived from the name (nickname) "Azarnoy" (robber) [2] .

History

On the map of the Moscow province of Gorikhvostov in 1774, the village is listed as Azarovo [3] . In the "Descriptions and alphabets to the Kaluga Atlas" in 1782 is mentioned as a village and village Azarovo, owned by Alexei Vladimirovich Borzov. The village was located on the right bank of the Shani River and the Orlets River, and the village was on the left side of the pond, and it was a wooden manor house where 38 yard people lived [4] .

On September 10 ( August 29 ), 1812, through Azarovo from Medyn, bypassing the Shansky plant , Gusevo , Kuzovo , a partisan party of Denis Davydov went to the village of Gorki (border of Gzhatsky district ) [5] [6] .

In the “Lists of populated places of the Kaluga province” of 1859, Azarovo is the sovereign village of the 2 camps of Medynsky district , located on the right side of the Medyn - Gzhatsk trade route. The village is located near the river Shani , 27 versts from Medyn . There are 19 courtyards and 148 inhabitants in the village [7] .

In the “List of populated areas of the Kaluga province” in 1914, Azarovo is a village of the Kuzovsky volost of Medynsky district .

During World War II

  • January 28 - During the first Rzhev-Vyazma operation, units of the 110th rifle division release Azarovo from the occupiers, the next day the 1287th rifle regiment occupies the Azarov-Shugaylovo line [8] . The enemy burned the village almost to the ground, leaving only two whole houses [9] . On the maps of the USSR in 1987, the edition was listed as the “Azarovo Tract” [10] .
  • February 8 - The Germans once again occupy the almost destroyed and burned-out village and place artillery there [8] .
  • February 9 - The enemy is still in Azarovo . By the end of the day, Azarovo was released again [8] .
  • February 14 - The 24th Ski Battalion receives an order to destroy the barrier in Azarovo , which was again occupied by the Germans [8] .
