Biography
At the beginning of the revolution he was a poor merchant of canvases. In the spring of 1793 he stood at the head of the rebel recruits in the Vendee and on the first day, March 10, 1793 , won two important victories. Despite his successes, especially the capture of the city of Cholet by attack on March 15, when his soldiers captured up to 700 prisoners and 4 guns, Katelino considered himself insufficiently educated to be a leader, and voluntarily submitted to Bonschann and d'Elbe .
After the capture of Saumur on June 12, 1793, his candidacy was nominated by the Marquis de Lescure for the post of "commander in chief of the Catholic and Royal forces" and unanimously supported by voters. After this, Katelino was already at the head of 80,000 people .
On the outskirts of Nantes, Catelino was mortally wounded and died on July 14 [1] ( July 11 according to the ESBE [2] ) in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil ( Saint-Florent-le-Vieil ). Maurice d'Elbé became his successor as commander in chief.
