Biography
Born in the family of an engineer - a railwayman , from noblemen . Coming from an aristocratic family, at age 14 broke up with her and entered the workers on the railway . From 1895 he studied at a real school , then studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts , in 1911 he graduated from the law faculty of St. Petersburg University . A member of the RSDLP since 1898, led party work in many cities, participated in general strikes in 1903, and in 1905 a member of the St. Petersburg Committee of the RSDLP. He suffered from tuberculosis , at the insistence of V.I. Ulyanov came to Geneva for treatment, and was also treated in the Crimea . During the years of World War I, in 1914-1918 he conducted revolutionary propaganda among the soldiers of the Northern Front . In 1917 in Petrograd, a member of the Vasileostrovsky district committee of the RSDLP (b) and chairman of the Council. After the October Revolution in 1917 - Deputy People's Commissar of State Control. In 1918 he was arrested by the White Guards in the Crimea. In 1918-1923 - on political work in the Red Army and Navy , then taught at military schools. In 1923-1924 - rector of the Institute of National Economy . In 1925-1929 - rector of the Academy of Arts in Leningrad . Since 1929 - a personal pensioner .
