Biography
The artist was born in Florence. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under the supervision of Professor Riccardo Pasquini , and then in the workshop of an Italian artist of Swiss origin Antonio Chizeri [4] .
The artist created his most famous and best works in the 1880-1890s. The works of Andrea Landini were repeatedly exhibited at international exhibitions in Paris, it was there that his last solo exhibition was presented at the Society of French Artists in 1911 . Then his fame began to decline, interest in his work was lost. The main genres in which the artist worked: portrait , still life and genre plots in Rococo interiors. Among his most famous genre works are: Seduction and Return. Among his many portraits, many of which are life-size: “Countess Lavinia Bocca”; “Portrait of the Princess of Wales,” “Portrait of the Countess di Pralormo,” “Portrait of the Countess Laparelli Pitti's Son.”
The British Museum has a series of paintings by the artist, depicting scenes from the everyday life of the highest hierarchs of the Catholic Church. The pictures with irony depict scenes in which they are very far from the standard image of people immersed in prayer and forgetting about the earthly bustle [5] . Cardinals play chess especially often in such paintings [6] . Also paintings by Andrea Landini are possessed by: Victoria and Albert Museum , London , National Gallery , Prague ; Capitol Museums , Rome , Kunsthaus , Zurich ; Royal Museums of Fine Arts , Brussels ; National Museum , Krakow ; Museum of the Duke Anton Ulrich , Braunschweig [7] . Currently, the artist's works are widely represented at leading art auctions. Prices for them range from 10,000 to 300,000 dollars [8] [9] .
