Views

Ivan Patrilyak stands for whitewashing the Hitler’s SS division “Galichina”, in his opinion, “The main problem is the Nuremberg trials, which recognized the SS as a“ criminal organization “” [2] .

Patrylyak believes that the Jewish pogroms were the “traditional” occupation of the Ukrainians [3] . According to him:

The Jewish pogroms in Ukraine were, so to speak, traditional, in these difficult relations between the local population and the Jews. It was something traditional. The Nazis, on the other hand, wanted to bring something unconventional to this — mass destruction on a racial basis. This has not been practiced here before [4]

I. Patrilyak believes that for such an iconic person as Bandera, the Park of Glory should be made [5] . Andriy Kozlov in his book “The whole truth about the Ukrainian Insurgent Army” cites the opinion of I. Patrylyak that the supporters of Stepan Bandera who participated in punitive actions did it on an ideological basis, because “in 1941, the fighters of the Ukrainian Nationalist Team had enough ideological and ideological grounds for participating in the destruction of the Polish intelligentsia and Jews ” [6] .

Patrylyak does not consider the murder of Poles in the Volyn massacre genocide [7] . Patrylyak justifies the killing by Ukrainians of the Poles who lived in Ukraine during the Volyn massacre by the fact that the Poles were “newcomers”:

As for the Volyn incident. When the Algerian Arabs began the war of independence, they massively killed the French white colonists. The same thing happened in other countries that fought the war for independence. In no case does this qualify as genocide against the colonists. If we say that the UPA detachment destroyed the Polish village and killed, well, I don’t know, 500 people, the Poles call it bullying (genocide), then why not call bullying a situation when a Polish detachment attacked a Ukrainian village and killed 500 people there ? The fact is that the Polish population, who lived on the territory of Ukraine, it came here at one time. It was not an autochthonous population, that is, a population that formed ethnically in this territory. Yes, sometimes these people lived here for 400-500-600 years, but still they were essentially a newcomer population [4]

Ivan Patrilyak develops the idea that the cooperation of Ukrainian nationalists and Hitler’s soldiers was situational [8] .

Patrylyak supports the myth created by V. Vyatrovich about the alleged salvation of a Jewish girl by Shukhevych [9] .

Patrilyak believes that the SBU should deal with the “fifth column” - the Moscow Patriarchate [10] .

Criticism

Per Rudling, a professor of history at Lund University and a specialist in the history of Belarusian and Ukrainian nationalism, sharply criticized information from the book by Ivan Patrilyak “Victory or Death!” In the Polish media. The Ukrainian liberation movement in 1939-1960. " The historian noted:

There are no references in the 2012 Patrilyak book, and it does not show that the information has been verified. His strange assertion that the constantly poorly armed units of the OUN-UPA killed 12,427 German occupiers, with their own losses of 2,251 people, is very unlikely [11] .

Per Rudling also noted that the data source for Patrilyak is a book by Alexander Denischuk, a man without a historical background, sponsored by the head of Freedom Oleg Tyagnibok and containing figures not confirmed by the German archives [11] .

Aleksey Martynov considers Ivan Patrilyak to be the creator of revisionist literature and, as one of the examples, quotes [12] a quote by I. Patrilyak, published in the publication “Ukraine Modern”

No matter how cruel it may sound, the death of one UPA soldier or an underground member of the OUN brought much more to the cause of the liberation of Ukraine than the millions of victims of the Ukrainians of the Red Army ... [13] [14]
