Biography

Alexander Grigorievich Grigoriants was born on June 19, 1941 in Tashkent . Initially entered the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute , where from the second year, among several of the most successful students, he was transferred to the Bauman Moscow State Technical University . Having finished it in 1965, he was left there for work at the specialized department “Machines and automation of welding processes”, where over time he defended his doctoral thesis and became a professor [1] . He is a member of the Russian Academy of Engineering [2] .

Scientific achievements

The initial activity of A. G. Grigor'yants in the areas of the theory of welding was the study of temporal and residual welding stresses and deformations, taking into account their impact on the performance of the structure, as well as the development of methods to eliminate them. It is associated with the design and experimental methods for determining the temporal and residual welding stresses, with determining the levels of their values during welding of various metals and alloys, as well as their effect on strength under static and variable loads [3] .

Since the early 1970s, A. Grigoriants has been studying the applicability of laser radiation in welding. The results of the work became the basis for the creation in 1981 of the first in the USSR similar department “Equipment and technology of laser processing”, where he became head. Nowadays, this department is called “Laser Technologies in Mechanical Engineering” [4] and, according to the achieved results, is one of the leading ones at Moscow State Technical University. N. E. Bauman [5] .

Publications

A. G. Grigoriants is the author of more than 370 published works, including 19 monographs, textbooks and teaching aids in the field of the theory of strength of welded joints and laser technology. According to RSCI , in the Mashinostroenie group, it is among the top 100 most quoted Russian scientists. On 1.02.2016, its Hirsch index is 7 [6] .
