Biography
Born in 1890 in the city of Totkolosz in Austria-Hungary (currently the Bekes County in Hungary).
As part of the Austro-Hungarian army, he participated in the First World War. He was captured on the Eastern Front by Russian. He became a communist, joined the Red Army , took part in the Civil War in Russia.
He studied at the Military Academy. Frunze in Moscow, received the rank of colonel . In 1936 he was sent to Spain, fought in the international brigade in the Civil War in Spain under the assumed name of Joseph Ivanovich Gal ( Spanish José Ivanovich Gal ). For some time at the beginning of 1937 he commanded the Abraham Lincoln Inter-Brigade [2] , but was replaced by Vladimir Chopich . Then commanded other Spanish divisions.
After the victory of the Spanish nationalists in the war, he returned to the USSR , where he was repressed - convicted by a military court and executed in 1939 in Moscow, like Vladimir Chopich. [3]
