Systematics

Previously, it was placed in the monotypic genus Rhamphomantis [1] , but now most taxonomists are inclined to believe that it is close to the bronze cuckoos of Chrysococcyx [2] [3] [4] , but it is believed that this species is more correctly attributed to a separate genus Chalcites [ 5] [6] .

It lives on the island of New Guinea (both in the Indonesian part and in Papua New Guinea ) and on the neighboring islands, in particular Aru . It lives in open high forests.

Subspecies

Two subspecies of Rhamphomantis megarhynchus are known: [7]

  • Rhamphomantis megarhynchus megarhynchus - New Guinea and Aru .
  • Rhamphomantis megarhynchus sanfordi - Waigeo

Biology

Nest parasite, however, the list of educators has not yet been established [8] . A female with an egg in the oviduct was obtained in September [9] .
