History
Founded in 1878 , the project was created by the St. Petersburg Geographical Service. It was originally a wooden building, but over time it was replaced by a red brick tower.
During World War II, the island was occupied by Romanian units that fought on the side of Germany. In the winter of 1942, during the withdrawal of the occupying forces, the lighthouse was blown up. After the war, a temporary wooden lighthouse was built. In 1957, a modern lighthouse was built with a diesel engine and acid-alkaline batteries. After supplying an electric line to the island in 1969, the lighthouse is powered by the mains. [1] The lighthouse is designed in the form of an octagonal tower 30 meters high, shining at a distance of 15 miles. [2]
Currently, the lighthouse is located on the territory of the Azov-Sivash National Park and entry into its territory without special permission is prohibited. The last repair of the lighthouse was made in the summer of 2008. [3]
