Yehoshua Tan-Pai (the original name is Shie Budesht ^[1] ^[2] ; Hebrew יהושע טן-פי ; July 2, 1914 , Chisinau , Bessarabian Province , Russian Empire - 1988 , Jerusalem , Israel ) - Israeli poet, journalist , translator. He wrote in Hebrew .

Biography

Born in Chisinau in a religious family; parents - Shoil-Haskl Moiseevich Budeshtsky (Budeshter, 1873—?) and Makhlya-Mea Moiseevna Brill - got married in 1898 . ^[3] ^[4] In the same place he graduated from the religious school “Mogen-Dovid” of Rabbi I.-L. Tsirelsona (movement " Agudas Isroel "). In 1934 he left for Mandatory Palestine , was a worker in the kibbutz of the youth left-wing Zionist movement “ Hashomer hazair .” In 1937-1938 he studied in Paris , returning to Palestine he worked as a teacher. Since 1942, he was a member of the editorial board of the central newspaper Ha-Arets in Tel Aviv , and from 1950-1981 he was the head of the editorial office of the newspaper in Jerusalem . Deputy Chairman of the All-Israel Union of Journalists and head of the Jerusalem House of Journalists.

Tan-Pai was the editor of the anthology Adam bakfar ( Man in the Village , 1942), the political publishing house Sifriyat Shaot (1943-1944); the weekly Khed Yerushalaim ( Jerusalem Echo , 1944-1946) and Ha-Tsuf ( Nectar , 1947); children's illustrated magazine " Mickey Mouse " (1947). Since the late 1930s, he has published ten poetry collections, including Me-Alef ad Tav ( A to Z , 1937), Variations from al-ha-Aviv ( Variations on a Spring Theme , 1941), and Shirey ha-Xosh ve-ha-Reut ”( Poems on Darkness and Vision (Appearance) , 1942),“ Netifim u-zkifim ”( Stalactites and Stalagmites , 1977),“ She-hei cancer hee-hee ”( And she is only she , 1986 ), evolving from futurism with a free rhythm to traditional rhyming verse, children's and satirical poetry.

He translated a lot from Yiddish , Romanian , German , French and English , in particular, the prose and poetic works of Balzac , Baudelaire , Maupassant , Arthur Rimbaud , A. S. Pushkin , “ Sevastopol Stories” by L. N. Tolstoy , and A. P. Chekhov , Shakespeare ’s sonnets, volume of poems by Mihai Eminescu and the Yiddish poetess in Yiddish Miriam Ulinover-Ulyanover.

Compiled an anthology of reports by prominent journalists of the world between 1793-1961, “Kan ragash ha-Olam” ( Events that shook the world , 1962; together with A. Hanseman), French-Hebrew dictionary (1966; together with S. Zach), edited a collection of poems and prose about Jerusalem "Ve-le-Irushalaim" ( And in Jerusalem , 1968). Tan-Pai was awarded a number of literary prizes, including the Prize of the Head of Government (1971) and the Prize named after H. N. Bialik .
