History
The debut is named after the Austrian chess player of the late 18th - early 19th centuries Johann Baptist Algayer , who published a detailed analysis of this continuation of the royal gambit in his book “New Theoretical and Practical Guide to the Chess Game” ( German: “Neue theoretische und praktische Anleitung for das Schachspiel” ) in 1795.
The gambit was very popular in the 19th century, but subsequently black opportunities were found for the equation of the game, as a result of which the gambit lost popularity. In the first half of the XIX century, the ideas of I. Algeyer were tried to be implemented in the Vienna party by the Austrian master Karl Gampe , who developed the debut, which was called " Gambit Gampe - Algeyer ."
In modern tournament practice, Gambit Algayer is rare.
Debut Ideas
White sacrifices the knight and, taking advantage of the king’s precarious position, gets a chance to attack. However, black with the exact game has the opportunity to gain an advantage in the game. Modern theory prefers White in this position as move 5. Kf3-e5 , which reduces the game to Kizeritsky’s gambit .
