Biography

Born 09/27/1911 in the city of Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, in the family of a weaving worker. In 1921 he entered the 96th labor school four-year, which he graduated in 1924. In 1925 he entered the preparatory courses of the Tiflis Turkic Pedagogical College named after N. Narimanova. After completing the preparatory course in 1926, he enters the 97th labor school for a decade with a pedagogical bias. In 1927 he joined the ranks of the Komsomol. As a student of the 97th school, in the last two grades he is assigned a Komsomol scholarship. After graduating from the 97th secondary school in 1930, the administration, taking into account his excellent study and social background, sent him to the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in Baku.

As a student, A. M. Kuliev spent a lot of public work. He was a freelance methodologist at the Gorono literacy department. In addition to developing guidelines for teachers, he was directly involved in the eradication of the illiteracy of the population of Baku.

In 1931, the Agricultural Institute was transferred to Kirovabad (now Ganja).

After graduating from the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in April 1934, as an excellent student, he was left a graduate student at the Department of Botany, and since 1935, due to the closure of the graduate school, he was transferred as an assistant to the same department. Until 1937 he worked as an assistant. Since 1939, by order of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR, it was approved as a senior lecturer at the Department of Botany. In parallel with teaching, he conducted a lot of research work. Under the guidance of Academician A.A. Grossheim, he studied melliferous and pernicious plants of the Kirovabad and Khanlar regions. The results of these studies formed the basis of his Ph.D. thesis.

In March 1941, at the Scientific Council of the Botanical Institute of the Azerbaijan Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of biological sciences on the theme "Honey and pergola plants of the Kirovabad and Khanlar regions." In the same year, the Higher Attestation Commission confirmed him in the rank of assistant professor. Since March 1945 A.M. Kuliev is a member of the CPSU. In the period from 1938 to 1945 he headed the Department of Botany of the Kirovabad Pedagogical Institute.

During the Great Patriotic War, he was a teacher in Az. The Agricultural Institute carried out a number of side works: in June 1942 he was temporarily appointed chairman of one of the collective farms in the Akstafa district (the Kirovka collective farm). In September of the same year he was returned to the Institute for lecturing. In the same year, he was seconded by the ASHI militia, then the commander of a youth company at the Kirovabad City Military Commissariat, accompanied by a train of recruits from Kirovabad to Mamedkala (near Mozdok).

From 1943 to 1945, concurrently was appointed head of the mulberry department at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Station of Sericulture, and from 1946 - dean of the Agronomy Department of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute.

In December 1949 he was enrolled in the doctoral program of the Botanical Institute. VL.Komarova AN USSR. After defending his doctoral dissertation in July 1951, he returned to the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute. In August of that year he was again confirmed as dean of the Faculty of Agronomy and head of the department of selection and systematics of the same institute.

In May 1952 he was approved as a doctor of biological sciences, and on November 29, 1952, he was promoted to professor. In September 1955, he was promoted to the post of Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the ASHI, in July 1957 he was transferred as Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the same Institute and was in this position until 07/01/1959. was appointed rector of the Kirovabad Pedagogical Institute. A.M. Kuliev in September 1960 was elected an academician of ASHNA. October 31 of the same year, vice president of the Azerbaijan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Professor A. M. Kuliev became a correspondent member in 1962, and at the end of 1967 he was unanimously elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.

From December 1970 until the end of his life, Academician A. M. Kuliev worked as the head of the department of technical and forage crops. On April 16, 1983, Academician A. M. Kuliev died right in the field while observing cotton crops. A. M. Kuliev is buried on the second avenue of honorary burial of the city of Baku.

A. M. Kuliev is a major biologist, known for valuable research in various fields of applied botany, genetics and selection of agricultural plants, the 45-year scientific activity of Academician A. M. Kuliev proceeded in three directions: in the study of plant resources; in particular, the study of the feed base of beekeeping and animal husbandry; to elucidate some of the evolutionary issues of flowering plants; and to genetics and crop selection.

The results of the research activities of Academician A. M. Kuliev are published in eleven monographs with a total of 136 printed pages and 288 articles published in various journals of the former USSR and abroad.

During his stay at ASHI as a teacher, he trained more than 9 thousand agronomists, livestock specialists, and highly qualified veterinarians. Academician A. M. Kuliev prepared a galaxy of scientists, 51 candidates and 8 doctors of sciences.

Scientific work

The main scientific works are devoted to the study of plants and experimental mutagenesis of agricultural plants. Based on the mutant forms, he created a number of new varieties of cotton, alfalfa and corn.
