String orchestra - orchestra consisting exclusively of stringed instruments.
A symphony is an orchestra made up of several heterogeneous groups of instruments - a string, wind and percussion family. A string orchestra is essentially a group of stringed instruments of a symphony orchestra. The string orchestra consists of two groups of violins ( first violins and second violins), as well as violas , cellos and double basses . This type of orchestra has been known since the 16th — 17th centuries.
The group of stringed instruments is considered the basis of the symphony orchestra and is divided into five parts:
- First violins
- Second violins
- Altos
- Cello
- Contrabass
Occasionally, a batch is written for the lowest string-stringed instrument - oktobass .
The range of the whole bow band covers almost seven octaves from to the counter-coke to the fifth octave [1] .
