In 1959 he graduated from secondary school No. 1 of the city of Petushki with a silver medal [1] .
He made a major contribution to the creation of a number of technologies that have no analogues in the world practice for producing valuable petrochemical products and to the improvement of existing technologies.
Using the method of labeled atoms, he established the mechanism of methanol formation, which gave a powerful incentive to improve the technology for the production of this large-tonnage petrochemical product from synthesis gas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen).
He developed a new class of catalytic reactions based on synthesis gas and acetylenes - the production of alcohols, diols and esters.
Creator of the scientific foundations of the process of hydroformylation of olefins in the presence of rhodium catalysts, which made it possible to develop technologies for producing a number of valuable products, including a two-stage process for producing isoprene, the first stage of which with a capacity of 100 tons / year was implemented at the Yarsintez NPP pilot plant in 1993, and the process obtaining ultrapure drug "valocordin", which passed pilot tests at the same plant in 1995.
In recent years, he developed the original process of converting the allen-methylacetylene fraction, which is a by-product of the large-tonnage process of pyrolysis of straight-run gasolines, into a valuable monomer for the production of plastic materials - methyl methacrylate.
Creator of the technology for producing synthetic liquid fuels from synthesis gas according to the Fischer-Tropsch method . The developed original catalytic systems make it possible to produce household fuel (propane-butane), gasoline and diesel fuel in one stage. Another original process for producing fuel hydrocarbons from alternative raw materials developed by E.V. Slivinsky is the synthesis of high-quality gasoline from dimethyl ether. Both processes are prepared for pilot implementation.
In the laboratory, led by Slivinsky, a branch of the Department of Petrochemical Synthesis Technology and Artificial Liquid Fuel of the Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical Technology named after MV Lomonosov (MGATT) was created and successfully operates.
The author of more than 250 scientific papers, including more than 30 copyright certificates and patents. In recent years, in collaboration with academician N. A. Plata , a monograph “Fundamentals of Chemistry and Technology of Monomers” has been published, awarded the Book Oscar as the best scientific book in Russia in 2003 [2] .
Under his leadership, 17 candidate and 2 doctoral dissertations were defended.
For about 10 years he lectured at the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University and at the Moscow Art Theater as a visiting professor.
