History
The former Finnish village of Hanhijoki ( Fin. Hanhijoki - Goose River) until 1939 was part of the Vyborg rural district of the Vyborg gubernia of Finland . After the Soviet-Finnish war of 1941-1944, it became part of the Vyborg district of the Leningrad region . In October 1947, the village of Khankhiyoki was decided to rename the village of Brusnichka , with the motivation “for natural conditions”. In July 1948, the form of the name was changed to Cowberry , and in January 1949, by a Decree of the Presidium of the RSFSR Supreme Soviet , the modern name was fixed [1] .
Earlier, in the village of Brusnichnoye, there was a checkpoint of the same name across the Russian - Finnish border. In 2001, the checkpoint was moved 16 km to the north-west, at a distance of 3 km from the border, but its name remained.
