History
The Savoy Dynasty is an ancient ruling family, founded in 1003 in the Savoy region (now - the Rhone-Alpes department in France). Later its influence intensified, and since 1720 the family ruled the Kingdom of Sardin in northwestern Italy. And her youngest line - the House of Savoy-Carignano - contributed to the unification of Italy in 1861 and ruled the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 until the end of World War II . Then King Victor Emanuel III abandoned the throne in favor of his son Umberto II , but after the constitutional referendum of 1946, the monarchy was abolished and the republic was founded, and members of the House of Savoy were ordered to leave the country [2] .
In 1562, Emanuel Filiberto , Duke of Savoy, moved his capital to Turin and began a series of construction projects with the best architects of the time. Subsequent rulers continued to build and rebuild the palaces. The richly decorated houses, usually with the works of artists of that time, were intended to impress the public and demonstrate the power of the House of Savoy.
In addition to the palaces in Turin itself, country houses and hunting shelters were built in the surrounding countryside. All these buildings together were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with the description that they “demonstrate the best in European monumental architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries, demonstrate in their style and magnificence the power of power of the absolute monarchy in material terms” [3] .
