Song
After the first season, Twin Peaks gained the status of a cult series, and Falling subsequently hit the music charts of twelve countries around the world, gaining a foothold in the Australian singles chart on the first line. The instrumental version of the song performed by Angelo Badalamenti received the Grammy Award for the best instrumental pop performance at the 32nd Grammy ceremony [1] . The instrumental version was included in Pure Moods , the first new-age collection of Virgin Records label music, but under the wrong title as the theme for the feature film Twin Peaks: Through Fire [2] .
Cruz released a new version of the song as a hidden track in her 2002 album, .
In 2010, “Falling” took 146th place in the “200 Best Songs of the 1990s” according to the electronic magazine Pitchfork [3] .
Cover versions
The song was repeatedly sung by many performers. In 1990, the German house band The Mob released four versions of the track in the Falling mini-album with the subtitle “Theme from Twin Peaks” [4] . In 1991, Danish DJ Keld Tolstrup, under the pseudonym One-Eyed Jacks (a reference to the casino brothel in the series), also released a mini-album, Falling, with three versions of the song. Three dance versions of the DJ were named “The Log Lady Mix”, “The Ronnette Pulaski Mix” and “The Log Lady Mix Short Version” [5] . The British indie rock band The Wedding Present recorded a cover version of "Falling" and released on the B side of the 1992 single "Silver Shorts". The song was later included in Hit Parade 1 (1992) [6] .
In 2010, the Northern Irish band Girls Names recorded a cover version of "Falling", which hit a fifteen-track sampler called Young & Research [7] . Later that year, electro-pop singer Rod Thomas, under the pseudonym Bright Light Bright Light , released a cover version of Falling online for free [8] . The video clip for the cover version of Bright Light Bright Light was filmed in the town of Snokvalmi , Washington , where the shooting of "Twin Peaks" took place twenty years ago [9] . Folktronica's American duo included two versions of Falling (with vocals and instrumental) in the Holiday 2012 mini-album, which featured other songs from Twin Peaks. All the proceeds from the sale of the mini-album were donated to the organization “ Doctors Without Borders ” [10] . In 2015, The Joy Formidable released a cover version of the instrumental composition called “Twin Peaks” [11] .
Apoptygma Berzerk 's Moment of Tranquility borrows the music from Falling but contains great lyrics.
