The Red Book of Yakutia was established in 1984 [2] . The first edition was released in two volumes in 1987.
The first volume of the second edition was published in 2000, it contains a list of rare and endangered plants and fungi, which includes 367 species, including 337 - higher vascular plants, 13 - bryophytes, 7 - lichens and 10 - mushrooms [1 ] .
The second volume of the second edition was published in 2003. It contains a list of rare and endangered animals, which includes 112 species, including 16 - insects, 6 - fish, 3 - amphibians, 2 - reptiles, 68 - birds and 17 - mammals [1] .
In 2017, the third edition of the first volume (plants and mushrooms) was published.
Rarity Status Categories
Categories of animal rarity status are determined by the following scale [1] :
- 0 - probably disappeared, which previously lived on the territory of Yakutia, but whose presence in nature has not been confirmed for invertebrates - in the last 30 years, for vertebrates - in the last 50 years;
- I - endangered, the number of which has decreased to a critical level, as a result of which they may disappear in the near future;
- II - vulnerable, which, apparently, in the near future are threatened with moving to the category of “endangered” if the factors causing the reduction in their numbers continue to operate;
- III - rare. They are small in number and distributed in a limited territory (water area) or sporadically distributed in large territories (water areas);
- IV - undefined by status. They probably belong to one of the previous categories, but there is currently no sufficient information about their state in nature or they have not been fully studied.
Categories of the status of the rarity of plants and fungi are determined by the following scale [3] :
- 0 - probably disappeared. Taxa, previously known from the territory of Yakutia, whose presence in nature has not been confirmed over the past 50 years, but the possibility of their conservation cannot be ruled out;
- 1 - endangered. Taxa, the number of individuals of which has decreased to such a level or the number of their locations has decreased so much that in the near future they can disappear;
- 2 - decreasing in numbers. Taxa with a steadily decreasing abundance, which, upon further exposure to factors that reduce the abundance, can quickly fall into the category of “endangered”:
- 2a - taxa, the number of which is reduced as a result of changes in the conditions of existence or destruction of the habitat;
- 2b - taxa, the number of which is reduced as a result of their excessive use by humans and can be stabilized by special protection measures (resource plants);
- 3 - rare. Naturally small taxa found in a limited territory and sporadically distributed in large areas, the survival of which requires the adoption of effective protection measures:
- 3a - endemic of Yakutia;
- 3b - endemics of the northeast and the Far East of Russia;
- 3c - rare throughout the range;
- 3G - rare only in Yakutia;
- 4 - undefined by status. Taxa, which probably belong to one of the previous categories, but there is currently no sufficient information about their state in nature, or they do not fully meet the criteria of other categories, but need special protection measures.
