Named after the St. Petersburg chess player of the first half of the XIX century A. Rozentreter.
Modern theory regards the Rosentreter gambit as a less successful start for White than the other Polerio - Muzio gambit that is possible in this position, since with the right game Black can equalize the chances. As a result, in modern chess practice, this beginning is rare.
