History
The departmental medal of the Armed Forces "For International Operations" was established on October 9, 2000 to reward civilians and military personnel, for participating in international operations for at least three months. The medal is awarded by the Minister of Defense of Norway. Fifteen months of service are marked by a silver five-pointed star attached to the ribbon of the medal, the next fifteen months are marked by another star but no more than three. Sixty months are marked with a metal bar in the form of a silver laurel branch. In 2009, a Medal with a gold laurel branch was added for courage and bravery in international operations, but it was canceled in 2011 .

Description
Silver round shape medal with a side.
The obverse carries the sword into the pole with its tip pointed upward surrounded by a laurel wreath.
On the reverse, the inscription: “FORSVARET - FOR INTERNASJONALE OPERASJONER” ( Armed forces • For service in international operations ).
Medal ribbon blue with a white strip of 4 mm. width in the center.
