Feudal duties - duties of peasants , served in favor of the feudal lords . In different periods and in different places feudal duties had their own specifics, size, and character, dividing feudally dependent peasants into numerous categories. All feudal duties were classified in three main forms of feudal rent - developmental, subsistence and monetary rents , which often coexisted, but at one stage or another one of them prevailed.

During the time of Kievan Rus, peasant communists ( smerds ) paid tribute in kind, sometimes in money, and also served underwater , military and other duties. For a long time, the tribute that it was collected by way of polyudae did not have precisely established dimensions. They were identified after the Drevlyansky uprising of 945. The growth of private feudal landed property of princes and boyars led to the conversion of tribute into feudal rents, with the development rent initially prevailing. From the first half of the XI century rent came in first place with products, and in the XIV-XV centuries. rent increased. However, the feudal lords at the expense of captured peasant lands own farms - estates that produced for sale bread and other agricultural products, led to the fact that in the XVI century. corvee has become one of the main types of feudal duties. According to the "Charter on dragging" of 1557 for regular peasants a regular corvee was established 2 days a week from dragging . Farmers-city workers served corvée one day a week, and their wives - 6 days during harvesting or weeding. In the southern part of Ukraine, which suffered from the attacks of the Crimean Tatars , the main feudal duties of the peasants remained a natural and monetary tribute.
