A member of the Montagnard group in the Convention , he voted for the death of Louis XVI and for the persecution of the Gironde . In 1793 he was sent against the Vendians and with inexorable cruelty belonged to priests and aristocrats. After Thermidor 9, Carpentier remained loyal to his party and was arrested on the uprising of the 1 prerial (May 20, 1795 ), but was amnestied and has since lived in Valoni, where he was a lawyer. Exiled as a regicide, in 1816 , Carpentier arbitrarily returned, was arrested and sentenced to exile, in which he died.
