Biography

He took part in the overthrow of Alexander Cuzy ; was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the office of M.K. Epureanu , a diplomatic agent in Vienna , the Minister of Public Education; later he headed the reformed conservative (unimist) party.

In 1888 , in the transitional office of T. Rosetti , Karp occupied an influential position and edited a new government program (the rise of the peasant and urban estates, the decentralization of management, the irremovability of judges, the improvement of the position of the clergy, the spread of religious education). In the office of L. Katarju 1892 Karp received a portfolio of the Minister of State Property.

He was a convinced Germanophile and supporter of Romania’s participation in the First World War on the side of the Triple Alliance . When Romania entered the war on the side of the Entente and part of its territory was occupied by Austro-Hungarian troops, Karp supported the collaborationist “government” Lupu Kostaki in the occupied territory and had the reputation of his “gray cardinal”.
