Biography

Born July 21, 1946 in Moscow .

In 1970, he graduated from the Physics Department of Moscow State University and began working at the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

In 1978 - defended his thesis.

Since 1983 - work at the Institute of General Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

Since 1993 - at the Scientific Center for Fiber Optics at the A. M. Prokhorov Institute of General Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences

At present, he is the head of the laboratory for fiber optic technology at the Scientific Center for Optical Optics at the IOF RAS.

In 2011, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences from the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science (section of the Materials Science).

Scientific and social activities

His research interests lie in the development of new types of optical fibers and the study of their optical properties.

He performed research that allowed developing and introducing into industrial production athermalized neodymium laser glasses that provide high radiation directivity of high-power solid-state lasers.

He made an important contribution to the development of the physicochemical foundations of the domestic technology for the manufacture of optical fibers for optical communication systems. He studied the patterns underlying the process of hauling the preform into a fiber, the degree of their influence on optical and mechanical characteristics, and developed a number of special fibers that have no world analogues: dispersion varying in length, high concentration of phosphorus and germanium oxides to create nonlinear fiber devices, active fibers with a record concentration of rare-earth oxides to create high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers, fibers with sealed coatings and a strength of first approaching the limit of quartz glass strength.

Under his leadership, five master's theses were defended.

Author and co-author of more than 200 scientific publications.

Rewards

Prize named after I. V. Grebenshchikov (for 2015, together with A. N. Guryanov ) - for the series of works “Development of physicochemical fundamentals for producing high-purity glasses based on silicon dioxide and optical fibers from them for fiber lasers and amplifiers”
