Karoyi (in the previous transcription - Karoly ; Hungarian. Károlyi de Nagykároly ) - one of the oldest noble families of the Hungarian kingdom . Known for documents from the beginning of the 13th century.

The ancestral castle of Karoyi is in the city of Karei in Partzium (modern territory of Romania ). The counts of Karoyi also owned other estates in this area, such as Ardud .
In 1712, Sandor Karoyi received the count's dignity. He was a general of the Kuruts during the Wars of Independence at Rakoczy , then commander in chief and in 1741 , field marshal .
Count Alois Karoyi ( 1825 - 1889 ) was the Austrian envoy to Berlin , participated in peace negotiations in Nicholsburg in 1866 , was the second Austrian delegate to the Berlin Congress , and later ambassador to London .
Famous representatives of the clan in the 20th century were Mihai Karoyi , the Prime Minister and President of Hungary in 1918-1919 , as well as Gyula Karoyi , the Prime Minister in 1919 and 1931-32.
