Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic

The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic is the central public authority of the Slovak Republic and has the following powers:

1. protection of the constitutional order, maintenance of public order, security of persons and property, protection of state borders, road safety and reliability, resolving issues of armament and ammunition, the work of private security services, entering the territory of the Slovak Republic and the stay of foreigners in its territory, issues of obtaining identity cards , travel documents and licenses for driving vehicles, solving the problems of refugees and emigrants, registering residents, registering a road Sportna vehicles and trailers, keeping the integrated rescue system, civil protection and fire safety,
2. general management of internal affairs of the state, including resolving issues of the territorial-administrative structure of the Slovak Republic, state symbols, maintaining the heraldic register, resolving issues of maintaining archives and registers, granting citizenship, registering births, deaths and other things, combining and registering legal entities in accordance with the procedure, defined by law, organizational support for elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic, organizational support for the election of the President of Slovak of the Republic and the popular vote on his resignation, organization of elections to territorial public self-government bodies, holding a referendum, organizing elections for the European Parliament, holding military graves, monitoring the activities of individual entrepreneurs, coordinating public administration at the level of municipalities, higher territorial units and local state administration bodies ,
3. management of the automated information system of the local administration,
4. the work of the police and the fire and rescue service,
5. coordination of training for employees of municipalities and higher territorial units performing public administration tasks.

The Ministry of the Interior is managed and responsible for its activities by the Minister of the Interior, who is appointed and dismissed by the President of the Slovak Republic at the request of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic.

The current Minister of the Interior of Slovakia is Robert Kalinyak (since April 4, 2012 ).

The Minister of the Interior during his absence is replaced by the Secretary of State within the framework of his rights and duties. In other cases, the Minister may empower the Secretary of State to represent himself within the framework of his rights and duties. When replacing a minister, the Secretary of State has an advisory vote at Government meetings. The State Secretary is appointed and dismissed by the Government of Slovakia at the request of the Minister of the Interior.
