Herzog de Terranova

Herzog de Tarranova - the hereditary title of the Spanish kingdom . It was created on April 11, 1502 by the King of Aragon Ferdinand Catholic for the famous Spanish commander, the “Great Captain” Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba (1452-1515).

The title comes from the name of the Italian city of Terranova-Sappo-Minulio , in the province of Reggio Calabria , Calabria region.

On July 22, 1893, the ducal title was restored by the Spanish king Alfonso XIII for Alfonso Osorio de Moscoso and Osorio de Moscoso.

  • 1502-1515: Gonzalo Fernandez de Córdoba and Enriquez de Aguilar (1453-1515), duke of Terranova (1503-1515).   • 1605–1623: Giovanni Tagliavia d'Aragon (d. 1623), the eldest son of the former and Giovanna Pignatelli. Also wore the titles of Prince de Castelvetrano, Marquis de Avola and de Favard, Count de Borghetto
  • 1623–1663: Diego Tagliavia d'Aragon (c. 1590–1654), younger brother of the previous one. He was also prince de Castelvetrano, Marquis de Avola and de Favara, and Count de Borghetto.
  • 1663-1692: Giovanna d'Aragon Tagliavia Carrillo de Mendoza and Cortez (September 12, 1619 - May 7, 1692), the only daughter of the previous and Estefania de Mendoza, marquise del Valle de Oaxaca (1595-1635).
