(26879) Haines ( lat. Haines ) - an asteroid belonging to the group of asteroids crossing the orbit of Mars . It was discovered on July 9, 1994 by American astronomers Carolyn Shoemaker and Eugene Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory and named after the Australian geologist Peter Wyatt Haines.
