Children's New Wave 2016 ( Eng. New Wave Junior 2016 ) is the ninth annual international contest-festival of popular music “ New Wave for Children ”, which was held from August 11 to 13, 2016 at the Artek international center in Crimea ^[1] . The competition was attended by 15 performers from 11 countries ^[2] . The Russia-1 TV channel showed an abridged version of the competition on August 27, 2016 , and later, from September 2 to 4, an extended version was shown on the Carousel channel.

The first place in the competition was divided among themselves by participants from Russia - Alexey Zabugin and the trio “HEYVA”. The second prize was received by Mikhail Grigoryan from Armenia and the representative of Malta Eila Manjon. The third place was shared by Zhanel Saduakas from Kazakhstan and Russian Maria Mirova, who also received a media award from RIA Krym and a special prize - song rotation on Detsky Radio .

Venue

Since 2010, the competition has been held annually by the Artek International Children's Center in Crimea ^[3] , located on the southern coast of Crimea in the village of Gurzuf . In Soviet times - the most famous pioneer camp of the USSR and the visiting card of the country's pioneer organization .

The hosts of the competition were Russian pop stars Lera Kudryavtseva , Yulianna Karaulova , Olympiad Teterich (Lipa), Stanislav Kostyushkin , Vlad Sokolovsky , as well as winners of the competition of past years Tonya Volodina and Katya Maneshina.

The competition was attended by 15 contestants from 11 countries of the world - Abkhazia, Armenia , Belarus , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan, Korea , Latvia , Malta, Russia , Romania and Ukraine . Also, Lizzi Pop from Georgia was supposed to take part in the competition, however, she had to refuse the trip for health reasons. All participants entered the competition, having passed the semi-finals that took place on April 17 and 18, respectively.

First day of competition

On August 11, the opening of the contest took place at the Artek central stadium, the start of which was given by the participants of past years by lighting a stadium in the Olympic bowl and raising the flags of the participating countries. The head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksenov made a welcoming speech, who wished successes and victories to the contestants, and also read out a welcome telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin .

The concert program began with the joint performances of pop stars and contestants of past years. Phillip Kirkorov , Jasmine , Stas Piekha , Dima Bilan , Sergey Lazarev , Vladimir Presnyakov , Nyusha , Dominic Joker , Julianna Karaulova , the Disco Crash and IOWA groups entered the stage together with the young performers. After that, the contestants performed world hits and original songs.

Second Competition Day

The second competition day, which took place at the central stadium Artek on August 12, finally determined the places of the performers in the competition table. By tradition, the competition day began with a concert program of artists and laureates of the competition of past years. That evening Philip Kirkorov , Yulianna Karaulova , Sergey Lazarev , Stas Kostyushkin and Irina Dubtsova performed on stage. After the concert program, the contestants performed world hits.
