Biography
Dmitry Volkov was born in Novokuibyshevsk . He is the nephew of the volleyball player Evgeny Petropavlov, who was famous for playing for Nova , Krasnodar Dynamo , Gubernia and the youth team of Russia [2] . He began to engage in volleyball in 2002 at the school for children in his hometown under the guidance of coach Svetlana Alekseevna Medvedeva.
In July 2011, he performed as part of the Novokuibyshevskaya sports school team at the final competitions of the 5th summer Olympics of Russian students in the sports complex Volley Grad near Anapa . According to the results of the Spartakiad, the team from the Samara region took 4th place, and two of its players - team captain Dmitry Volkov and Denis Shenkel - received a call to the junior team of Russia and the Novy Urengoy “Torch” , on the basis of which it was formed [3] .
In October 2011, Volkov began performing for the Fakel farm team in the Youth League . After a month and a half, he won the prize to the most valuable player of the Eastern European Volleyball Area Championship in Ostrovets-Swietokškysk , which ended with the victory of the junior team of Russia [4] . In February 2012, in Nizhny Novgorod, as part of the team of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, he won the gold medal of the Russian junior championship of 1995–1996.
In the 2012/13 season, Dmitry Volkov became the silver winner of the Youth League Championship. In July 2013, as part of the Russian national team U19 under the leadership of Alexander Karikov, he won gold medals at the World Championships in Mexico and the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht , according to the results of the world championship was included by the organizers in the symbolic team.
Youth League 2013/14 season Dmitry Volkov completely missed because of problems with the spine. Doctors have identified Scheuermann-Mau disease and have developed a non-surgical recovery program. During the year, Dmitriy increased his muscle mass by 25 kg, which allowed him to get rid of back pains that were bothering him [5] .
Returning to service after a forced break, Volkov joined the youth national team of Russia and in its composition he won the European Championship held in August-September 2014 in Nitra and Brno [6] . Soon, together with partners in the youth "Torch" Egor Kluka and Ilya Vlasov joined the main team and made his debut in the Super League. Almost immediately, Volkov became distinguished by high emotionality and became a player in the starting sixes of Torch, one of the key players at the reception and in the attack of the Urengoy team [7] .
In the summer of 2015, he became the bronze medalist of the European Games in Baku and the winner of two world championships - in the age categories U21 and U23. June 17, 2016 in Kaliningrad made his debut in the national team of Russia in the World League match with a team of Serbia . In August of the same year he spoke at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
In April 2017, in the "Torch" Dmitry Volkov won the Challenge Cup and was recognized as the best player in the final matches of the tournament [8] .
In September 2017, he won gold at the European Championship in Poland and entered the symbolic national championship. In 6 matches, Volkov put up 15 successful blocks, which was the best result in the Russian team and among all the players before the tournament.
In 2018 and 2019, Dmitry Volkov in the Russian national team became the winner of the League of Nations , and in the debut draw he performed the duties of captain of the national team. According to the results of both final stages, he was recognized by the organizers one of the best pre-players.
