Neotropics : Brazil , Venezuela . The length of the soldiers is up to 9.5 mm, the main body color is brownish-black. The spikes of the chest are similar to Acromyrmex hystrix , it also has long and forward-lateral acute-lateral sharp humeral spines of the pronotum and there are no median spines of the pronotum. Differ in the presence of two tubercles on the epinotum. From the species Acromyrmex octospinosus differs in direct and sharp pronotum spines, directed forward and slightly to the side (they are blunt) [1] . Characterized by their close symbiosis with mushrooms grown in earthen anthills based on leaf chewed mass.
The species was first described in 1939 by the Italian worldmecologist F. Sanchi based on materials from Brazil, similar to the species Acromyrmex hystrix and Acromyrmex octospinosus [1] [2] .
