History

TPP Loma de la Lata was built in 1994 at the eponymous oil and gas field. In 2008, the Argentine holding Pampa Energía bought the power plant [1] . In 2010, as part of the Energía Plus program, a steam turbine manufactured by Siemens with a capacity of 178 MW was installed and started up at the power plant [3] . During the operation of the turbine because of the mistakes of the contracting company - Spanish Isolux, a number of defects were revealed [4] . The turbine worked at lower parameters, which led to friction between Pampa Energía and Isolux. Equipment repair was delayed [5] . As a result, the Argentine company appealed to the International Court of Arbitration in Paris [4] . In response, Isolux filed a counterclaim [5] .

Basic data

The power plant is located 1 kilometer from the northern shore of the reservoirs of Los Barreales and Marie-Menuko with the hydropower complex of Cerros Colorados . Production indicators of thermal power plants:

  • Installed electric power - 553 MW (2015) [2]
  • Electricity generation - 2.582 billion kWh (2015) [2]

The main equipment of the power plant includes 3 gas turbine units with a capacity of 125 MW each and 1 steam turbine. In addition, in May 2016, a new General Mill turbine with a capacity of 105 MW [1] was launched. The fuel used is natural gas [2] , coming from the Loma de la Lata deposit located nearby.
