Of a noble family, he was a canon in his youth, then indulged in the joys of social life, enjoyed the favor of King Jaime I of Aragon, and died, almost reaching the age of one hundred. About 70 poems by Cardenal have been preserved, mostly mune Sirvente ( lilacs ). In them, he acts as a sincere supporter of Count Raimund VII of Toulouse and enjoys the failures of the crusaders in the struggle against the Albigensians . In his poems, the church, cardinals , and pope are ridiculed. According to a medieval biography, "he condemned the evil of this world and the infidelity of clergy." Of the 70 works by Cardenal, 3 canons are parodies that make fun of courtly customs.
