Do not confuse this medal with the medal "For service in the Armed Forces" with the laurel branch , which in its position is a separate award.
Content
History
The Medal "For Service in the Armed Forces" was established on May 1, 1982 as a reward to long-time servicemen of the Armed Forces of Norway. The medal is awarded by the Norwegian Minister of Defense to servicemen and civilians with 25 years of service. Each subsequent five years of service is marked on the medal ribbon by a five-pointed star of silver metal. A maximum of three stars is provided.

On October 12, 2005, the statute of the medal was amended to provide awards to employees of the National Guard of Norway, who have 10 years of service.
Amendments to the charter in 2011 allowed the medal to be awarded to foreign nationals, who by their actions helped to strengthen the defense of Norway.
Description
Medal round silver metal shape.
The obverse carries three swords pointed in a pillar upward.
On the reverse along the circumference there is an inscription: “FORSVARET • FOR FORTJENESTER •” ( Armed Forces • For service ).
Ribbon medals in red with a white stripe 4 mm. wide in the center.
