He studied in Kydonia , then for some time he lived at home in Adrianople . In 1809 he went to Italy , enrolled at the University of Pisa , where he studied natural sciences and mathematics, later turned to medicine and in 1819 received a doctorate [1] .
In Adrianople in 1819 he took control of the local school, which he transformed into a gymnasium; in 1824 he left the school, where he was also a teacher, and moved to Constantinople , where from 1827 he was first a life doctor of Mahmoud II , and from 1828 to 1861 - at Abdul-Majid . Here he founded the Imperial Medical School, in which he read zoology and botany in French and Turkish for fourteen years [1] .
