Biography
Representative of the ancient Baltic noble family of Hovens . Son of Roman Ivanovich Hoven , Major General, Georgian Civil Governor . He was brought up in the Imperial Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum . Issued in 1829 with the rank of officer of the Young Guard.
A participant in the Caucasian war , about which, in addition to ethnographic and historical essays , information about the split in the Caucasus and other things, he published many valuable articles in the magazines “ Military collection ”, “ Caucasian collection ”, “ Illustrations ” (1860-1865), “ Ancient and New Russia ”and others.
In the journal "Illustrations", without exception, all articles on the Caucasus issue were compiled by him. Of his historical articles, the essay is of great interest: “My acquaintance with the Decembrists and other remarkable personalities who served in the Caucasian troops in 1835-1836” and “From the past”.
The story of I. Hoven about his meeting with A. Pushkin on Nevsky Prospekt in 1829 has been preserved: the poet answered the question about the place of service: “I am listed in Russia” [1] .
