  • S. p. mindanensis (with Mindanao )

Propagation and habits

Previously, pigs were distributed in all ecological niches of the western islands of the Philippine archipelago, where they lived, up to a height of 2800 meters. However, due to active hunting and reduction of forest area, now Philippine pigs are found only in remote forests. The species is vulnerable [2] .

Wild pigs have been reported in Bohol and Sibuyan , but it is not known whether they belong to the species Sus philippensis or Sus cebifrons .

The species consists in a close genetic relationship with a Bearded pig .

Hybridization

Due to deforestation and hunting, representatives of the species came into close contact with domestic pigs ( Sus scrofa domestica ). Hybridization cases between them have been reported.
